A key Ferrari engineer is set to join McLaren after a period of gardening leave. He will join the papaya orange McLaren team in 2023, and will be tasked with helping the team improve their car's performance.
Sanchez is set to take up his position as part of a wider technical restructure at McLaren, according to RacingNews365's sources in Italy. He had previously worked with new McLaren Team Principal Andrea Stella when Stella was also at Ferrari - most notably as Fernando Alonso's race engineer before the Italian switched with Alonso to the Woking squad in 2015.
Sanchez previously worked at McLaren between 2007 and 2012 as a Senior Aerodynamicist and later as a Team Leader in the Aero department before leaving for Ferrari in October of that year.
Prior to his first spell at McLaren, Sanchez was an Aerodynamicist at the Renault team - now Alpine - from 2005 to 2007.
